UL Nanjing office strengthens FUS services for North China

UL has set up its second representative office in China with an aim to serve UL customers in Northern China better

The new office in Nanjing primarily focuses on UL FUS services. It will provide regular training to local field inspectors.

The new Nanjing office is part of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. and will be UL’s Inspection Services arm for North China. With the new establishment, UL not only provides better support, training and monitoring to its inspection personnel, hence UL’s inspection services and activities, but also builds closer relationships with customers in North China and provides them with more immediate assistance.

Since China’s entry into the World Trade Organization, Nanjing has received increased attention from foreign investors. On average, two new foreign firms establish offices in the city every day. Leading multinational firms, such as Volkswagen, Iveco, A.O. Smith, LG and Sharp, have established production lines in the region.

To cope with the rapid growth of the manufacturing sector, large-scale industrial zones have also emerged in Nanjing, namely Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Nanjing New and High Development Industry Zone and Nanjing Jiangning Development Zone. In the meantime, other neighbouring cities like Hangzhou, Suzhou and Dalian, have also attracted foreign investments and local innovations to develop their super factories there. As a result, the demand for product safety certification and factory inspection services from those industries is rising.

The new office in Nanjing primarily focuses on UL FUS services. It will provide regular training to local field inspectors. The training and the subsequent follow-up will enhance field inspectors’ knowledge of UL inspection and standards of safety requirements and deepen their understanding of UL’s high level of integrity and business ethics compliance.

At present, there were around 120 UL inspectors in Northern China stationing at key cities like Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Beijing, Dalian, Qingdao and Xian.

The Nanjing team will have close contact with government bodies like CNCA (Certification and Accreditation Administration of People’s Republic of China) and AQSIQ (General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China) so as to foster support towards other conformity assessment related issues, for example, China local certification and anti-counterfeiting. Customer Advocacy representation is also found in Nanjing to provide another effective communications channel for UL customers.
