ENEC Mark Scheme Revised

Now opened for manufacturers and testing laboratories outside Europe

The ENEC Mark is a pan-European Safety Mark for electrical products manufacturers to demonstrate compliance with European safety standards. According to a unanimous decision made at the ENEC Members Meeting in Helsinki, Finland this April, the ENEC scheme was revised, with one major change being the lifting of geographical restriction of applicants and testing laboratories.

Effective May 15, 2008, manufacturers who want to apply for the ENEC Mark can appoint any CB Testing Laboratory (CBTL) outside Europe to conduct the testing. The CB test reports and certificates issued by non-European CBTLs are also recognized by ENEC after successfully reviewed by an ENEC Certification Body.

What’s more, manufacturers are allowed to conduct product testing at their own laboratories via a Manufacturer’s Testing Laboratory (MTL) Program.

UL Global Market Access for Appliance Switch Industry

UL testing laboratory in Taiwan is a CBTL and has been recognized by the IECEE (IEC System for Conformity Testing and Certification of Electrical Equipment) for the INST (Installation Accessories & Connection Devices) category and has testing capability for IEC 61058-1 dedicated for manufacturers of appliance switches in Greater China.

UL offers Greater China switch manufacturers with one-stop 61058-1 testing and certification services, including the UL Mark (UL 61058-1) for North America, the internationally recognized CB Certification (IEC 61058-1), the ENEC Mark and the D-Mark (EN 61058-1) for Europe. That means manufacturers can obtain multiple certifications with one single application and all testing can be completed in our Taiwan facility.

UL customers also enjoy exclusive benefits as follows:

  Localized Technical Support
In Greater China, UL is the only testing and certification organization with the most comprehensive testing capabilities for IEC/ UL 61058-1. Local engineers are qualified to review and approve test reports, hence a knowledgeable technical resource at your fingertips.

  Higher Cost-Efficiency
There is no testing difference between EN 61058-1 (ENEC Mark and D-Mark) and IEC 61058-1 (CB Scheme). However, differences still exist between the two standards and UL 61058-1, including dielectric tests, temperature rise limit after endurance cycles, plastics requirements and electrical ratings (see Figure 1). UL’s 61058-1 Global Market Access Service is an integrated program aiming at the reduction in repetition in the same testing, turnaround time and the number of samples needed. As a result, manufacturers can enjoy greater reduction on cost and time on multiple certification applications.

Fast and Direct Connection to Switch Buyers
All UL Recognized Switches will be listed in the UL iQ™ Database for Switches. It means that switch manufacturers can be easily reached by end-product manufacturers for potential business. The database, available from www.ul.com/iq, enables searches by switch parameters such as electrical, endurance and temperature ratings, as well as company name, UL File Number and catalog number. UL is considering the inclusion of non-UL Mark information for Switches such as that for the D-Mark, the ENEC Mark and the CB Scheme into this online tool.
