UL 697 Toy Transformers, 6th Edition    Addition of requiring dielectric test be conducted following the enclosure abuse test. October 13, 2006
Samples of packaging must be submitted for investigation to determine compliance with new/revised labeling requirements.
Samples of instructions must be submitted for investigation to determine compliance with the cautionary statements regarding use by children.
UL 1310 Class 2 Power Units, 4th Edition The operating orientation of a direct plug-in power unit shall be indicated in the instructions as follows: "This power unit is intended to be correctly orientated in a vertical or floor mount position" or equivalent wording. October 20, 2006
UL 2054   Household and Commercial Batteries, 2nd Edition   The flammability requirements for the outer battery case material shall be minimum V-1. As an alternate, a ¾ inch end product flame test can be conducted if the material does not have a minimum V-1 flame rating. October 30, 2006
Battery packs under BBFS are required to have a limited power output in compliance with the revised requirements to better match the limited power requirements of UL 60950-1, which outlines the specific criteria including single component faults and current and power limits for inherently and non-inherently limited power supplies.
UL 758    Appliance Wiring Material,1st Edition    All materials which are not specifically called out in UL 1581, section 50 shall be subjected to a flexibility test and dielectric test Method I and II after 150 days of aging in addition to tensile and elongation for 90, 120, and 150 days at the temperature described in section 481.3 of UL 1581. November 1, 2006
All extruded polymeric coverings used as the outermost layer (either required or optional per the style page) shall be tested to the same requirements as a jacket.
All styles using CP, NBR/PVC and SBR/NR will be reviewed to determine that they comply with the elongation recovery test specified in the applicable tables in Section 50 of UL 1581.
UL 696   Electric Toys, 9th Edition (Clause 7.2, 7.3)   All toy cooking appliances or other toys intended for use with or in the presence of food shall not have a plating that contains cadmium or lead. No exception. December 1, 2006
If a plating is applied to a toy intended for use with or in the presence of food, such plating shall not flake or peel, and shall conform to the toxicology guidelines given in 4.3 of the Standard Consumer Safety Specification on Toy Safety, ASTM F963.
UL 496 Lampholders, 12th Edition New and revised requirements for thermoplastic materials, push-in terminals, soldered connections, quick-connect terminals, the center contact of lampholders intended for use with single-filament lamps, lampholders with pull switches, metal shell lampholders, wet location lampholders, and pressure sensitive labels. December 15, 2006
UL 153 Portable Electric Luminaires, 12th Edition UL 153 now covers portable hand light (lamp) with new/ revised requirements on construction, test, marking, and instructions when compared to those previously covered under UL 298. December 23, 2006
