UL's Client Lab assessment Support

Have you ever thought of having better control of the UL testing process of your products by doing the tests yourself? By participating in UL’s Client Interactive Program (CIP), you will be able to set up your own UL testing facility managed by your own engineers.

To qualify your facility as a CIP lab, you may seek UL’s Client Lab Assessment Support, by which our in-house experts will assist you in demonstrating physical resources, equipment, environment and qualified personnel that meet UL’s safety and quality procedures and standards.

S.C.Wong, Test and Reliability Manager (right) says the assessment support has helped his engineers fully understand the certification requirement and entire application process.“Through the customized support service including pre-assessment and technical training, our engineers were able to fully understand not only the UL Standards and assessment requirements of the CIP, but also the entire product certification process,” said Mr. S.C. Wong, Test and Reliability Manager of Kaz (Far East) Limited.

"With professional advice from UL’s experts, we set up our own laboratory systemically. The facility was accredited by UL two months ahead of schedule!”

Kaz is a U.S. based manufacturer that produces quality health care appliances such as humidifiers, vaporizers, air purifiers, heater fans and electrical fans. Its brand names include Kaz®, Honeywell®, Vicks®, Enviracaire®, Duracraft®, Burg®, Stinger and many others.

Located in Shenzhen, China, Kaz’s laboratory has already gained the first level CIP qualification - Witnessed Test Data Program (WTDP). At this level, Kaz can conduct UL tests at its facility and by its personnel under the supervision and witness of UL personnel.

The next step for Kaz is to set up an Ozone Testing Facility. UL engineers in Hong Kong are now assisting them in setting up an appropriate test environment, purchasing and installing test equipments and verifying relevant test data.

“The assessment program has allowed us to interact with UL engineers more directly and frequently and enabled more exchange of knowledge and ideas on conformity assessment,” Wong concluded.

Wong has also identified 3Cs from the CIP:
  1. Confidence
Self-testing capability has greatly increased Kaz’s confidence in getting UL certifications. Kaz’s engineers can even order components long before obtaining the successful certifications.
  2. Convenience
More flexible testing schedule that matches with the company’s “Go-2-Market” plans is now possible.
  3. Competitive Edge
Having its own UL-qualified testing capabilities, Kaz’s reputation and competitive position is elevated.UL Logo
