Starting May 2004, a new FUSTART
program is there to better prepare UL customers for the Follow-Up Service
(FUS) inspections.
FUSTART will provide a visit at the manufacturer's facilities to
pass on knowledge of the FUS program, including requirements, fundamental
elements, as well as tips on compliance to the program.
FUSTART would help customers new to FUS increase the chance for a successful
Initial Production Inspection (IPI). Existing customers who have failed
in previous factory inspections can also benefit by improving compliance.
Other significant benefits of FUSTART include:
- Being able to effectively plan production based on
compliance. Manufacturers would know the required
traceability requirements of the FUS program and
incorporating these in the factories quality process to produce
compliant products.

- Eliminating repeat inspections. The Increased Inspection
Program (IIP) will be implemented at manufacturers who
fail to ensure compliance with safety requirements. FUSTART helps manufacturer
understand the FUS requirements thus reducing the likelihood of needing
an IIP.
What will you actually learn from FUSTART:
UL's product safety testing and certification programs
Types of UL Inspection Programs
UL FUS program elements
Authorization of applying the UL Mark on products
Guidelines on manufacturers' use of the UL Mark
Ordering and using UL labels
Client Document Access (CDA)
