On the right track to start your own UL Test Lab
To achieve UL certification in less time and at less cost, qualified manufacturers can choose to participate in ULs Client Interactive Programs (CIP). These programs allow you to conduct UL testing in your own facilities to obtain safety certifications with increased flexibility. Other benefits include:
| > |
Flexible Schedule:
Greater control of the testing lead-time to properly meet your production schedules;
|
| > |
Maximization of Resources:
Self-generated test data is recognized by UL thus reducing duplication of effort;
|
| > |
Integrity Recognition: Enhance your reputation and competitive position by demonstrating your UL-qualified testing capabilities.

Client Lab Assessment Support
To participate in the CIP, you need to demonstrate that you have the physical resources, equipment, environment, and qualified personnel to conduct tests that meet ULs safety and quality procedures and standards. This may seem like a difficult level to achieve but our in-house experts are here to assist you throughout the whole process.
We have experienced engineers who can provide you with the suitable technical training, facility development assistance, and assessment support
to ensure the proper adherence to
UL standards.

CIP Levels
| 1 |
Witnessed Test Data Program (WTDP)
The first level allows manufacturers to conduct UL tests at their facilities and by their personnel under the supervision and witness of UL personnel. Under this program, we will review the adequacy of the facilities and oversee the performance of the tests and the recording of data.
|
| 2 |
Client Test Data Program (CTDP)
The second level allows manufacturers to conduct UL tests at their facilities and by their personnel without the supervision of UL personnel. This means that manufacturers may generate their own test data for submission to UL for certification decisions.
|
| 3 |
Compliance Management and
Product Assurance Program (COMPASS)
COMPASS permits greater involvement of client personnel in the product certification process by extending the concepts of the CTDP to the documentation of product conformance with certification requirements. Manufacturers at this level can make minor revisions to products while continuing to use the UL mark.
|
| 4 |
Total Certification Program (TCP)
The highest level is an interactive, systems-driven program that integrates certification activities with the product development and manufacturing processes. TCP combines UL efforts with client capabilities in the areas of standards interpretation, product development, and product testing under a quality assurance system. TCP makes use of the concepts under the CTDP, COMPASS, and ISO 9000.
